New York Governor Kathy Hochul has condemned the attack on lauded writer Salman Rushdie at a lecture in the state.
Rushdie is "on the road to recovery," his agent confirmed on Sunday, two days after the author of "The Satanic Verses" suffered serious injuries when he was stabbed on stage.
Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey, pleaded not guilty on Saturday to attempted murder and assault charges in what a prosecutor called "a targeted, unprovoked, pre-planned attack" at western New York's Chautauqua Institution, a non-profit education and retreat centre.
