New York make history by beating Leitrim in the Bronx

New York made history on Saturday by beating Leitrim to win for the first time in the Connacht Senior Football Championship at the 23rd attempt.

The Exiles won on penalties after ex-Dublin All-Ireland winner Shane Carthy brought the game to extra-time with a score in the eighth minute of added time.

Both sides missed their first two penalties before ex-Down player Niall Madine scored his kick for New York.

Leitrim's Shane Quinn and Jack Reilly of New York then both hit the crossbar before Evan Sweeney kicked wide for Leitrim.

Mikey Brosnan secured victory for New York by kicking the ball into the top left corner. They will now face Sligo in a Connacht semi-final on April 22.
