New York Jets star appears to make Zach Wilson dig as Aaron Rodgers trade done

NFL star Breece Hall seemed to take a swipe at Zach Wilson following the blockbuster trade of Aaron Rodgers.

Last month the iconic quarterback stated his desire to either retire or play for the New York Jets in an interview with Pat McAfee. His wish was granted as a deal was agreed on Monday between the two franchises to send him to the Big Apple. The 39-year-old is also in line to start ahead of Jets’ young quarterback in Wilson, who endured a poor season and was benched midway through the last campaign as a result.

Therefore, he will become the 2011 Super Bowl winner’s backup and following the news of the Rodgers trade, Hall posted a cheeky tweet that may have been aimed at his team-mate and the 2021 No.2 draft pick. “My Knee feel a lil healthier now,” the Jets running back said.

Hall has spent the offseason recovering and rehabilitating from a torn ACL, with the post suggesting he is now keener to rush back for the start of the season with Rodgers as quarterback rather than Wilson.

Wilson suffered some injuries early in the previous campaign, including a bone bruise and meniscus tear. In fact, the 23-year-old’s knee is surgically-repaired and has injured it twice within his first two years playing in the NFL.

He will need to stay fit if he wants to have a chance of winning his starting place from the four-time MVP next season. However, there are suggestions he will reclaim the starting quarterback spot once Rodgers retires. The deal sending Rodgers to the Jets includes a 2nd rounder and 1st round pick swap this year, in addition to a conditional 1st rounder in 2024.

The Jets’ General Manager Brian Gutekunst revealed that he expects the Rodgers deal to be finalised prior to Thursday’s NFL Draft. "Obviously Aaron's up there in age," said Gutekunst. "I think he's got some really good football left in him. As we got through the offseason and started talking about where we wanted to go, this made a little bit of sense for us.

"We're chasing Super Bowls and that's an important thing. We were eight and nine last year and as we move forward it was more about what we're going to do to get better."

Speaking of the draft, both the Packers and Jets have swapped picks, meaning the Jets have moved up two spots to no. 13. The four-time Super Bowl champions have also gained one of the Jets' second-round picks and a conditional second round pick for 2024. The latter will become a first round pick as long as Rodgers features in 65% of the Jets' offensive snaps next season.

Rodgers was recruited by the Jets in a bid to solve their quarterback issues and help them qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2010. Last season the side finished bottom of the AFC East, winning just seven of their 17 games and ended the campaign on a six-match losing streak.
