Aaron Rodgers is finally a New York Jet after an off-season full of negotiations and rumours surrounding his future.
And it turns out the Jets haven't just been wasting time coming up with the perfect trade deal to send to the Green Bay Packers, and making sure they have enough Rs, Os, Ds, Gs, Es, and Ss in the merchandise store for replica jerseys.
No, they have been putting together one of the greatest hype videos in recent memory to tease the trade on social media. The 33 second video of pure excitement starts with Joe Budden shouting "I've been waiting baby," something that Jets and almost all NFL fans have been thinking for months.
It then comes on to include air horns, excitable Spongebob characters, Neighborhood Patrol memes, Arrested Development, Moneyball and The Office clips, the "I think I got my swagger back" meme, "that, that's awesome" and all topped off by a man screaming "LET'S GOOOOOOO" for five seconds.
Of course, all the clips have a Jets reference in them, whether it is the badge, caps, or even players that have been overlayed onto the original clips. It really has been worth the wait.
Four-time MVP Rodgers made it clear on the Pat McAfee show last month that he wanted to leave the Packers and join the Jets - having been at Green Bay since 2005.
In exchange for Rodgers, the Packers gave up third overall pick at his week's NFL Draft, a 2023 second-round pick (No.42), a sixth-round pick (No.207) and a conditional second-round pick that becomes a first if the quarterback plays 65 per cent of the plays. With Jets getting No.15 pick and a 2023 5th-rd pick (No. 170), along with Rodgers' services.
Rodgers helped the Packers win the Super Bowl in 2010 and is one of the franchise's greatest players - having completed over 5,000 passes at almost 60,000 gained yards.
Rodgers also follows in the footsteps of another legendary quarterback, Brett Favre, who swapped the Packers for Jets in 2009. Favre only lasted a year in New York before moving to the Minnesota Vikings. Rodgers, at the age of 39, might not stick around much longer.
Rodgers is expected to wear the No.8 jersey, rather than the No.12 he wore in Green Bay. The No.12 was retired by the Jets when the iconic Joe Namath called time on his career in 1985 but the quarterback reportedly gave the blessing to unretire it if Rodgers wanted it.
The Packers had wanted to keep Rodgers for another year. Rodgers went away to a darkness retreat after the season and became uncontactable to his side. "I was really looking forward to the conversations with Aaron to see how he fit into that," Gutekunst said in late March. "Those never transpired. So there came a time where we had to make some decisions, so we went through his representatives to try to talk to him [about] where were we going with our team. At that point, they informed us that he would like to be traded to the Jets."
