New York Jets give Derek Carr 'Hall of Fame' message ahead of NFL free agency

The New York Jets' pursuit of Derek Carr is already well under way after they met with the quarterback in recent days.

Carr was released from the Las Vegas Raiders this off-season after nine years with the franchise following a disappointing campaign with much expected. Carr has played at a solid level for the team in recent years, but has never reached the heights he set in an impressive 2016 year.

Since then, there's been many up's and down's, with the Raiders being linked with a move away from Carr for the last few years.

But the front office gave the quarterback a huge boost when they brought in his his close friend and former college teammate, superstar receiver Davante Adams away from Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, where Adams would go on to lead the NFL in receiving touchdowns.

But a disappointing year would follow, with the Raiders benching Carr for the final three games of the season to prevent an injury and hampering their ability to move on from him this off-season.

Earlier this week, Carr visited the Jets, with the franchise looking to sign a 'veteran quarterback' this off-season, and it has emerged that they are very interested in bringing him in.

ESPN reporter Dianna Russini has reported that the Jets believe Carr could become a 'first ballot Hall of Famer'. Russini said: "Carr is in the driving seat in this situation. The meeting with the Jets went really well, and New York believe that he is a great quarterback and they have sold him on the fact that they have a legit supporting cast to surround him with.

"They went from top to bottom on to why Carr can take them to the Super Bowl and made it personal when they told him that if he comes to New York and wins then he could become a first ballot hall of famer."

Jets head coach Robert Saleh is keen on signing a veteran, in the hopes they will mentor long-term option Zach Wilson, as so it has been reported.

Wilson could well have played his last game for the Jets after a nightmare two seasons after being picked with the second overall selection in the 2021 draft, and had openly annoyed his teammates when he chose not to take any blame for a number of poor losses.

Carr will be taking time over his next move and will want to evaluate all options before signing, with the New Orleans Saints also interested.

But with the Jets having an emerging superstar wide receiver in Garrett Wilson and a strong offensive line and running game, Carr could be the perfect fit for the side.
