New York Giants star Jamie Gillan stuck in London after Packers win due to passport error

New York Giants punter Jamie Gillan remains in the United Kingdom after being denied access back to the United States following their win over the Green Bay Packers in London this past weekend.

It is unclear at the moment precisely what the issue is, but Gillian will be hoping to return to New York as soon as possible. The Giants will be back at home this week when they face the Baltimore Ravens, as they chose not to have a bye week after their trip to London, with the implications potentially huge for Gillan should he miss the game.

As a punter, roster spots in the NFL are usually tough to keep a hold of, with a number of punters looking to make their way back into the league. However, the Giants aren't working out any other punters, which indicates the team isn't too concerned about the situation.

Gillan, who was born in Scotland before moving to the United States in his early teenage years, did not play American football until he was at High School in Maryland, before starring at Pine Buff college, Arkansas.

He would go on to be signed by the Cleveland Browns., and was their punter for three seasons, before being released towards the end of the 2021 season. After an impressive off-season he signed with the Giants, and even kicked field goals whilst Graham Gano - who is also born in Scotland - missed several games with an injury.

The NFL Network reported that Gillan came to the U.S. on a NATO visa with this father, and that was never changed to a work visa when he entered the NFL. In good news for Gillan, though, the Giants have not worked out any other punters and are aware of the ongoing issue - as they expect him back in time to face the Ravens on Sunday.

It's been an excellent start to the year for Gillan's Giants, as they have hugely exceeded everyone's expectations, rising to a 4-1 record to begin the season after their win over Aaron Rodgers' Packers. Saquon Barkley continued to star for New York, with 100 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in the game.

The Giants will be hoping to continue their strong start to the season against the Broncos on Sunday, and will go into the game as favourites due to the Broncos' faltering offence.

Russell Wilson drew criticism after last Thursday's defeat due to his failure to run the ball into the end zone when on 4th and 1 in overtime. Instead, he attempted to throw to a covered receiver, and the Broncos subsequently lost their third game of the year.
