New York Giants: Has Brian Daboll Lost The Locker Room?

There weren’t a whole lot of expectations for the New York Giants this season, but somehow, the 2024 campaign has been an even bigger disappointment than anticipated. And after making a mid-season cut of starting quarterback Daniel Jones this past week, it appears that their head coach’s job might also be in question.

Report: Brian Daboll May Have Lost The Giants Locker Room

After a big road win in Seattle back on October 6th, the Giants were sitting at 2-3. There were hopes that the team would be able to turn the tide and potentially have at least a respectable run in the NFC, but they haven’t won a game since. They are 0-6 in their last 6 games, including Sunday’s 30-7 defeat at the hands of the Buccaneers, which is made worse by the fact that they enjoyed their bye the week prior.

There is plenty of blame to go around, but it all starts at the top. Brian Daboll entered the season as one of the NFL head coaches that had something to prove in 2024, and he has fallen flat in response. There have been rumblings that some players have mentally checked out in recent weeks, which has been all but confirmed by some Giants insiders. According to Sports Illustrated’s Giants insider Patricia Trania, Daboll’s message is “falling on deaf ears” in the locker room, which doesn’t bode well for his status as the team’s leader.

With each passing loss, Daboll’s seat becomes increasingly hot. Sunday marked his 45th game coaching the Giants since being hired before the 2022 season, and he is now 17-27-1 in that time. It looked as though things might improve after New York made the playoffs in their first season with Daboll at the helm, but they have gone 8-30 since then.

While it is likely that Daboll is fired at some point in the coming months, exactly when is still up in the air. The Giants still have six games to play this season, including tough matchups against the Eagles and Ravens, which will be difficult games to win if the locker room is disconnected with the leadership. There is a chance that New York pulls the plug within the next couple of weeks, and perhaps see what they have in-house by elevating an assistant coach to finish out the season.

The Giants will travel to take on the struggling Dallas Cowboys in a divisional matchup next weekend. The early betting line has the home team favored by 3.5 points.
