New York City Councilwoman expressed concerns regarding the city's sanctuary status in light of recent events. The Councilwoman highlighted the case of a suspect in a murder, who was known to the police and had a prior citation in Queens. She questioned whether the suspect could have been deported if not for the sanctuary status.

The Councilwoman emphasized the need for better communication between local law enforcement and ICE. She suggested that bringing back ICE and enhancing collaboration with the police could prevent similar incidents in the future.

Furthermore, the Councilwoman called for the Mayor to exercise emergency powers to address the current situation. She compared the potential declaration of a state of emergency to previous instances such as the COVID vaccine rollout and recent flooding emergencies.

She argued that the city is facing a crisis, citing escalating crime rates and a lack of control over the influx of individuals. The Councilwoman pointed out instances of severe crimes resembling those seen in third-world countries occurring on New York City streets.

In conclusion, the Councilwoman stressed the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate action to address public safety concerns and prevent further incidents from happening.
