New yellow warning and flood alerts issued across Scotland as 'heavy rain' expected

A NEW yellow warning has been issued in Scotland with a number of flood alerts also coming into place.

The Met Office has said that a warning for rain covering much of the north-west of the country will come into place from 5pm on Wednesday, May 22 and last until 10am on Thursday, May 23.

It said that “heavy rain may bring some disruption to western and northern Scotland” and said to expect the following:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses if possible
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services possible

Elsewhere, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency has also issued a number of flood alerts for the following areas:

  • Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City
  • Ayrshire and Arran
  • Caithness and Sutherland
  • Central
  • Dumfries and Galloway
  • Dundee and Angus
  • Easter Ross and Great Glen
  • Edinburgh and Lothians
  • Fife
  • Findhorn Nairn Moray and Speyside
  • Scottish Borders
  • Tayside
  • West Central Scotland

A separate yellow warning for much of the rest of Scotland, including Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen is also in place from midday on May 22 until 6pm on May 23.
