It's New Year's Eve and if you need to pick up a few extra things to see in 2023, there's not long left to visit the supermarkets and shops.
Stores will be open today, but opening times are slightly shorter than usual at most places, so that staff can enjoy the night too. Don't forget that some shops will be closed tomorrow on New Year's Day, and have reduced opening times on January 2, which is a bank holiday. So if you need to stock up for a few days, now is the time.

Below we’ve rounded up the opening and closing times for New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and bank holiday Monday. These opening times are for larger supermarkets and superstores, but some smaller convenience stores will be open that bit longer. We’ve included links to the store locators so you can check your nearest if it’s not listed.
Aldi
Aldi stores across England will all operate the same opening and closing times over the Christmas period. These are:
New Year’s Eve: 8am to 6pm
New Year's Day: Closed
Monday, January 2: 8am to 8pm
Asda
Asda superstores have slightly different opening times. These are the times for some of the larger stores on Merseyside and you can check your nearest using the Asda store locator.
New Year’s Eve: Breck Road, Birkenhead and Penny Lane 7am to 7pm. Smithdown Road 12am to 7pm. Walton 6am to 7pm. Liscard, Stoneycroft and Bootle Orrell Lane 8am to 7pm. Bootle 6am to 7pm.
New Year's Day: Breck Road, Birkenhead, Smithdown Road, Walton 10.30am to 4.30pm. Penny Lane, Liscard, Stoneycroft, Bootle Orrell Lane and Bootle 10am to 4pm.
Monday, January 2: All stores 8am to 8pm
Marks and Spencer
Christmas opening times vary across Marks and Spencer stores. These are the opening times for some of the local stores and you can check others using the M&S store finder here.
New Year’s Eve: Church Street and Edge Lane 8am to 6pm. Speke, Aintree, Queens Drive 8am to 7pm.
New Year's Day: Closed

Tesco
