New Year's Eve 2019 in Manchester - the best parties and events to ring in 2020

The end of 2019 nigh and the Twenties are just around the corner (finally, another decade with a name we can all agree on).

It's as good an excuse as any for a party, and Manchester sure knows how to throw one of those.

From a free, family-friendly fireworks display to club nights and gigs, here are some of the best ways to ring in 2020.

You can also find local events near you by using the In Your Area tool at the bottom of this page.

Manchester's free New Year's Eve fireworks display will be held on Deansgate, outside Manchester Cathedral, this year.

Music and a big screen will welcome the crowds from around 10.30pm on Tuesday December 31.

A countdown will then lead up to the stroke of midnight, when a 10-minute fireworks display will sparkle over the city.

If you're hoping to ring in 2020 with a glass of something sparkling too, be warned: there's no bar, and no alcohol is allowed to be brought to the event.

The Warehouse Project

Always one of the biggest parties of the year, the penultimate night of this year's WHP will now be even bigger after the clubbing institution's move to the 10,000 capacity Depot at Mayfield.

The line up features a headline set from Annie Mac, as well as DJ sets throughout the night from Groove Armada, Rudimental, Artwork, Melé and Hannah Wants.

If you've still got the stamina, then the New Year's Day line up is equally as impressive with a bill featuring Maceo Plex, Helena Hauff, Seth Troxler, Joy Orbison, Folamour, Octo Octa, Eris Drew, George Fitzgerald and many more.

Depot, Mayfield | NYE (7pm to 4am), £29.50, and NYD (2pm to midnight) £20, tickets from thewarehouseproject.com

The Hacienda NYE Resident's Party

Graeme Park (Joel Goodman.)

The Haçienda is seeing in the new decade with its first NYE party in five years, in a new, intimate warehouse space a stone's throw from the original Whitworth Street club.

Taking place at Viadux Warehouse, the night will bring together six of the club's long-standing residents: Graeme Park, Greg Wilson, Tom Wainwright, Jon Dasilva, Allister Whitehead and Chad Jackson.

Park said: "I'm very excited to be bringing in the New Year with the Haçienda this Hogmanay. It's been years since I DJed in Manchester on New Year's Eve and they were always among the highlights of any year at The Haçienda. This amazing new venue across the road from the original Haçienda promises to make this a very special event indeed. And it's across the road from the original Haçienda! What? Yes! Come on then!"

Viadux Warehouse, Albion Street | 7pm to 3am | Tickets from £22.25 from Skiddle

The whole thing will be soundtracked by DJ Claud Cunningham.
