New World Rugby rankings as Wales win crowns new number one, England rise and All Blacks plummet

The World Rugby rankings have changed significantly after a remarkable weekend of Test rugby, with South Africa's defeat to Wales seeing them removed as the best team on the planet.

France are the new number one-ranked team in the world, courtesy of their narrow 20-15 win over Japan and defeats for the Springboks and New Zealand. The All Blacks have plummeted to fourth in the rankings after the 23-12 home defeat to Ireland - their worst ever position.

Wales are up from eighth to ninth after beating the world champions 13-12 but still trail Scotland who are seventh after their 29-6 win over ninth-placed Argentina. Ireland are now second, ahead of the Springboks, while England and Australia have swapped places in fifth and sixth after Eddie Jones' side won the second Test 25-17.

Further down the table, Georgia's seismic 28-19 win over Italy sees them rise to 12th in the rankings, with the Italians now down in 14th, behind Samoa, who beat Tonga 38-14.
