A PLANNING application for a new whisky storage warehouse scheme has been approved.
The development was approved by councillors on Stirling Council and is set to be built at Throsk.
Those behind the scheme, Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD), say that the new facility will create 40 jobs, in addition to the 55 jobs anticipated for construction.
The site covers more than 20 acres and will comprise nine whisky maturation warehouses, a centre to create blended whisky, and an office building.
IMD also has distilleries at Rosebank in Falkirk, Glengoyne in Stirlingshire, and Tamdhu in Knockando on Speyside.
Mike Younger, finance director for IMD, said the new development would benefit the Scottish economy.
Once packaged at a separate facility in Broxburn, IMD products will be sold in the UK and exported to Europe, USA and East Asia.
Younger said: “This new development will provide additional capacity to support our operations across Scotland.
“Through broadening capacity in our spirit supply chain there will be a clear beneficial impact to this business and the local and national economy.”
Younger also commented on the environmental impact of the project, stating that “the facility will be highly sustainable”.
He continued: “As part of our broader commitment to addressing climate change and delivering net zero, the facility will be highly sustainable and have minimal environmental impact. We will respect the rich biodiversity of its location by the River Forth.
“We would like to thank the community for its support of our proposals and look forward to continuing to engage with them as the scheme progresses.”
