New Welsh bakery sells out every day since it opened

A new Welsh bakery has opened on one of the trendiest high streets in the country and it has sold out every day since it's opened.

On its opening weekend on May 5 in Narberth, Rock N Dough Bakehouse had sold out of pastries by 7.30am and even after doubling the number of loaves and croissants he makes every morning, baker Karl Abraham is struggling to keep up.

Rock N Dough started out life as a micro-bakery in Pembrokeshire when Karl and his partner Karin Termote were home on furlough from their former jobs in Narberth’s five-star Grove Hotel.

At the time, Karl was the hotel’s head pastry chef and Karin worked front of house. But after Karl, 35, started creating artisan bread and pastries from the couple’s home at Maenclochog, demand snowballed and they simply didn't have the room to cope. Already supplying bread, pastries and granola to businesses across Pembrokeshire, the couple have now opened their first shop in an old NatWest bank in Narberth.

Customers have flocked to the new shop to pick up loaves of rosemary and Halen Mon sea salt sourdough focaccia, sourdough baguettes and almond croissants. Karl even popped up the high street to Ultracomida and picked up Serrano ham and Gouda cheese for a "Saturday special" savoury croissant.

After their "amazing opening week" the bakery is still finding demand higher than they could ever have dreamed. On May 5, they posted on Facebook they'd completely sold out by lunchtime. The couple are reeling from the success and said: "Who’d have thought, almost four years ago we were baking loaves out of our house oven just to do our part and bring some spirit to the community during lockdown."
