Britain is bracing for a significant winter blast as new weather maps reveal the exact date snow will blanket the country. According to WXCharts, widespread snowfall is expected to hit on March 4, bringing freezing temperatures, strong winds, and heavy rain. The heaviest snowfall is forecast over western Scotland, including Inverness, Fort William, and Glasgow, while other regions such as the Hebrides, Shetland, and western Northern Ireland (Derry) are also set to see wintry conditions.
Snowfall will extend further south, affecting parts of Wales (Cardiff, Conwy), the north of England (Carlisle, Lancaster, Liverpool, Manchester, York), the Midlands (Birmingham, Oxford, Milton Keynes), East Anglia (Cambridge, Norwich, Ipswich), and even London, Canterbury, and Brighton in the southeast.
Accompanying the snow, temperatures will plunge across the UK, with Scotland seeing lows of -3°C, while Northern Ireland and northern England will hover around 0°C. The Midlands, Wales, and southern England will see slightly milder conditions, ranging between 1°C and 3°C, according to Daily Express.
Met Office Outlook
The Met Office has warned that early March is expected to bring continued unsettled weather, as Atlantic frontal systems push across the UK. These systems will bring periods of heavy rain, strong winds, and occasional dry spells in between.
“Temperatures are likely to be above average, especially early in this period when it will be very mild,” said a Met Office spokesperson. “Into the middle of the month, drier, more settled conditions may become more prevalent, especially in the south.”
Short-Term Forecast
- Tonight: A dry but chilly night for most, with a patchy frost forming under clear skies. Cloud cover will increase as a band of rain moves into the southwest by dawn.
- Wednesday: A chilly, bright start for many, turning cloudy from the west as patchy rain and drizzle spread east. Breezy conditions will persist, but it will feel slightly milder.
- Thursday to Saturday: Milder but unsettled, with strong winds, heavy rain, and possible coastal gales. By Saturday, sunnier spells and scattered showers will develop more widely.
While the upcoming snow will bring wintery chaos, milder temperatures are expected by mid-March, offering some relief from the biting cold.
