New village hospital plans approved near Mansfield

Plans for a new mental health hospital in a village near Mansfield have been approved. The vacant site in Rainworth will be an extension to the existing Cygnet Healthcare site in the village, who provide services "for individuals with mental health needs, autism and learning disabilities within the UK".

The planned 4,314sqft building was unanimously passed during a meeting of Newark and Sherwood District Council's planning committee on Tuesday, April 12. The development would be an extension to an existing psychiatric hospital.

Documents state that the site would bring a “much needed” health care facility to the area to meet demand. The site is currently occupied by Sherwood Lodge and Sherwood House.

Planning committee chairman Councillor Roger Blaney, who represents Trent ward for the Conservatives on Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: "I don't think it's the last time we will have this application before us with further amendments and I do hope it proceeds and I'm looking forward to seeing it completed."

The proposal includes a total of 42 car parking spaces, including three disabled spaces. Sherwood Lodge cares for men with learning disabilities and complex needs and Sherwood House is a specialist high dependency inpatient rehabilitation service for men.
