New vegan supermarket opens in Nottingham with hundreds of products

A vegan supermarket has opened to shoppers in Sneinton - and residents believe it is going to 'go down well'. The Lime Green Organic Vegan shop, in Gedling Street, just across from Sneinton Market, stocks hundreds of products including sugar free products and gluten free items.

It opened on Wednesday, June 7 with six staff members and is the brainchild of Nejdet Kaya, who also owns the Murat Supermarket in Sneinton Market, Mr Kaya said: "We have a selection of organic wines and beers which are gluten free and vegan and juices too.

"Murats opened last year and that has been busy, we have customers coming in asking for gluten free and vegan products, I listened and thought I’d do this [open the new supermarket] myself.”

On the shelves, you’ll find crisps, jam, honey, sugar free products, baby products, cleaning products, a fruit and vegetable section, cereals, a frozen foods section and more. Mr Kaya added: “We’re in the right location, this is the city centre, in Nottingham people travel to the city all the time - this is the right position. Our prices are good, we try our best to be fair.”

Shoppers are happy the new supermarket has opened, too. Charlie West, 21 is a student.

She said: “I’m vegan myself and live in town so having this is so handy. I think it’ll do well.

“I know people who aren’t vegan that like certain vegan products so I think this will go down well with everyone.” Charlie added: “It’s so easy to get to and once you’re in town you won’t need to get a bus or anything like that and if you live in Sneinton or town, even better.”

Mark Thomas, 49, lives in Carlton. Mark, who is unemployed, said: “Becoming vegan is becoming more popular, a lot more people are thinking about what they’re eating so I’m sure they will get on well.”

Mark added: “I’d go in to buy my fruit and veg and a few other bits.” The supermarket will be open from 9am-9pm everyday.
