Fans will fave to wait a little longer for the long-rumored new update of the Detroit Lions uniforms. Team president Rod Wood indicated on Monday at the NFL owner’s meeting that the team will not change the uniforms this year, but the process has already begun for potential new threads in 2023.
“We’re actually starting a process to look at a possible change for next year,” Wood told reporters in Palm Beach. “It’s really like a year-plus lead time. So we just convened a committee. I know we get a lot of things tweeted at us, and suggestions about what fans want, so we catalog all those and we’ll take them under advisement.”
Wood ruled out any base color changes, but he did bring up the potential for an alternate helmet.
“We may look at a different helmet as part of this as well as the change to the uniforms, but just started the process,” Wood said.
One popular suggestion is for the team to remove the “WCF” logo on the jerseys that honors longtime owner William Clay Ford. It’s been eight years since Mr. Ford passed away, with ownership control now with his daughter, Sheila. Wood acknowledged it’s something the team will consider.
The Lions found widespread approval with the all-white uniform variation they wore selectively in 2021.
