New traffic restrictions are being introduced to a residential area of Salford following the construction of a new housing development. Nightingale Gardens has been developed on the east and west sides of Hospital Road near Pendlebury and plans for new ‘no waiting at any times’ signs and 20 miles per hour zones are due to be implemented.
The Traffic Regulation Orders in the area have been reviewed to 'improve the new development and maintain safety'. The streets affected by the proposals are Hospital Road, Borchardt Drive, Liebert Drive, Holden Drive, Sillavan Close, Wrigley Avenue and Stancliffe Drive.
Following the formal consultations period, four objections were received, three of which opposed the proposed restrictions in the turning heads, and one to the restrictions as a whole.

But after consultation with councillors and bin collection services, there were found to be no issues with parking in the turning heads affecting bin and recycling collections. As such it was agreed the restrictions to the turning heads would be dropped.
After this, three of the objectors withdrew their objections, and the fourth did not respond to council’s emails. However, the leader member, Mike McCusker, said at the Planning and Sustainable Development briefing that this objector, who said they required care workers access to park, would not actually be impacted by the no waiting zone.
“The streets consist of multiple junctions and cul-de-sac’s turning heads; to allow service vehicles to deliver goods and refuse wagons to remove waste from site; NWAAT restrictions are proposed at these locations,” the report said. “Also included are the new junction off Hospital Road, and Manchester Road A6, Holden Drive, north and south access and Liebert Drive as well as Wrigley Avenues junction with Manchester Road (A6).”
Following the advice from officers, the lead member of the Planning and Sustainable Development panel, Mike McCusker, granted approval for a new Traffic Regulation Order consisting of ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions (NWAAT) and a 20mph zone in the streets within the development are set to be implemented on the surrounding streets.
