New Titans WRs coach Tyke Tolbert: 3 things to know

The second coaching staff hire made by Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon was former Chicago Bears wide receivers coach, Tyke Tolbert, who is taking the same role in Nashville.

Tolbert, who also served as the passing-game coordinator in Chicago, brings a wealth of experience with him to Tennessee.

He’s been a wide receivers coach in the NFL since 2003. Before that, he was a college coach and worked with both tight ends and wide receivers.

Whether it’s been in college or the pros, Tolbert has a history of success when it comes to developing young pass-catchers.

We’ll talk about that and more as we take a look at three things to know about the Titans’ new wide receivers coach.

Tolbert and Callahan crossed paths when both were with the Denver Broncos, where they won a Super Bowl in 2015.

Tolbert served as wide receivers coach from 2011-17, and during that time Callahan served as an offensive quality control coach (2011-12) and offensive assistant (2013-15).

But that isn’t the only connection Tolbert has with the Titans, as he was on Florida’s staff as the tight ends coach in 2002 when Carthon was a running back there.

Tolbert has a history of success when it comes to developing young pass-catchers, which is particularly important when you consider he’ll be working with Treylon Burks, who desperately needs a good season in 2024.
