“Analytics” has become quite the buzzword in the NFL world in recent years, even though most of the time, it’s mentioned in passing without much detail into what it actually means from a football standpoint.
During his introductory press conference Wednesday, new Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon told a story that illustrated the importance of having a healthy balance of analytics and the eye test, using film to back up the numbers.
Carthon spoke of the collaborative process during his time with the San Francisco 49ers that led to a personnel decision during the NFL draft that helped shape the team’s success the following season:
