La Liga president Javier Tebas claims Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus are plotting a new European Super League “without the Premier League clubs”.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, and Liverpool were all a part of the scheme which was abandoned after only 48 hours in April 2021. AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid were also apart of the controversial scheme which prompted heavy backlash from supporters, politicians, the media, and many players and coaches.
The astounding reaction prompted the Premier League sides to become the first to pull their interest out of the competition. However, Tebas believes Real Madrid president Florentino Perez may be plotting another breakaway league without the Premier League sides.
“Florentino never loses, he is always coming up with something,” Tebas said at a press recent press conference, via Football Italia. “The Super League is a concept that started many years ago and is more Florentino’s, not so much Real Madrid’s.
“It continues existing. They give a lot of importance to what the EU could solve, but the European governments have already positioned themselves. They are working on another project, that will be a failure again, without the English teams, against UEFA, FIFA and the Premier League.”
Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all maintained a keen interest to resuscitate the controversial proposals. A document published by Wirtschaftswoche revealed five huge changes that have made to try and make the European Super League more palatable.

One of which included the removal of a permanent membership with no relegation or promotion; instead devising a top division of 20 teams with a second tier also consisting of 20 clubs. Soon after these new proposals were drafted, Perez claimed the European Super League would bring “Financial Fair Play” and “freedom” to European football, before describing UEFA as a “monopoly”.
Perez has often been regarded as one of the main ringleaders and architects of the European Super League. And the controversial Real Madrid chief reaffirmed his adamance that the Super League would be the best thing for European Football, before proclaiming he will "remind UEFA who Real Madrid is".
“The Super League is not just a competition, it's much more. It's trying to change the dynamics of football. It's freedom, it's financial fair play,” Perez told Real Madrid members at the club’s general assembly in November.
“The Super League is the project that will avoid situations in which clubs get indiscriminate support. It would only develop if it's compatible with the domestic leagues.”
“We all heard [UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin say he wants to change the Financial Fair-Play rules to allow states to inject money into certain clubs, which would compromise the principles of football.
"UEFA rejected any kind of idea or plan, clubs were threatened, their presidents were insulted all through UEFA’s president. It's time to remind UEFA who Real Madrid is."
