Searches for “Where is the best Christmas town in the USA” have increased by 350 percent in the last twelve months—and for good reason. We’re all getting a little anxious to explore new corners of the world and with international travel still being quite tricky—especially for families—finding a domestic escape for the holidays is the next best thing.

Happily, a new study from Next Vacay recently revealed the most Christmassy towns in America. The study analyzed cities from coast to coast and scored each on several factors, including the number of Christmas markets, coziness, snow fall, and how Instagram-friendly each individual town was.

Whether you’re planning your next family holiday getaway or you’re just hoping to escape on a cozy reprise before the holidays are in full swing, here are the most Christmas-friendly towns in America—from Woodstock to Washington State.

Leavenworth, WA

Home of a Reindeer farm—yes, really—Leavenworth, WA earns top spot for its Bavarian-style village, Christmas market, and annual sledding competition.

Mystic, CT

Head to Olde Mistick Village and you’ll instantly be transported into an old school holiday film. Mystic is packed with charming Christmas character and also happens to boast an eye-popping 38 Christmas tree farms.

Woodstock, VT

Woodstock ranks third on the list due to the sheer amount of snow and Christmas cheer that encompasses the town. It’s such a Christmassy spot that the classic 2008 film, Moonlight, and Mistletoe, was filmed there!

Boston, MA

Boston is a charming city to visit at any time of year—but particularly come Christmastime. There are a total of 35 Christmas tree farms nearby—and 43.8 inches of snow covers the town every year.

New York, NY

No list of Christmassy towns and cities would be complete without New York. The twinkling lights, dazzling storefronts, and of course the abundance of holiday films that take place in the city make it a must-visit for Christmas lovers of all ages.
