New Station Hotel damage probed by South Ayrshire Council

More giant holes have been torn in the canvas thrown up to protect Ayr's Station Hotel.

The white dome erected around the crumbling pile is costing council bosses £64,000 per month.

But it continues to be ravaged by the weather, with high winds blasting regular craters in the structure.

And this week, another huge strip has been torn off one side of the building, leaving it completely exposed to the elements and public below.

It follows further high winds which blew in earlier this week.

However, Ayrshire Live understands council buildings chiefs are refusing to rule out some element of foul play.

They have launched an investigation into how an entire portion of the costly scaffolding protection has come loose.

Two separate groups have already managed to gain access to the building to record footage from within the at-risk hotel.

It is believed building bosses are suspicious about how the latest section of the protective dome was dislodged.

We told almost three weeks ago how significant storm damage had been caused following January storms.

At that time, council chiefs pledged repairs to the scaffolding would be made "as soon as practical."

That work is yet to commence, with the latest damage leaving yet more parts of the building exposed.

The encapsulation was originally set up to prevent any part of the hotel building from falling on to the streetscape or Ayr train station below.
