Proving once again Manchester’s sandwich prowess, a new spot boasting huge subs, hot dogs and a gussied up McDonald’s-style apple pie has launched today. The folks behind the bakery and lunch spot Batard have set up their new concept at the Ducie Street Warehouse.
Behind Super Happy MCR is Lewis Loughman, previously of bakery Gooey, Katey Mack formerly from Wolfhouse Kitchen and ex-Pollen baker Sally Higginbottom. The menu features a host of high-end sandwiches, featuring speciality breads, among them a house-made hoagie roll and a potato brioche for the hot dogs.
The subs will come with a huge range of fillings, including a signature fried mortadella with dill cream cheese, crisps and buffalo sauce, and a vegan number featuring a mushroom schnitzel in cajun-spiced panko breadcrumbs.

There will also be grilled two-cheese sandwiches on homemade brioche, arriving with butter pickles, and a pickled yellow courgette, herbed ricotta and tomatoes in Turkish bread. Hot dogs-wise, they’re using smoked frankfurters from the Original Continental Sausage Company, with toppings like kimchi and cheese with their own house pickles.
As for that McDonald’s style hot apple pie, it’s a ‘miso apple fry pie’, made with a flaky pie crust and caramelised apple, served with a miso caramel sauce. A range of sweet babkas will be on offer too, coming in coffee pecan, horchata cinnamon and matcha raspberry varieties.
Super Happy MCR will take over from bagel makers Breadflower at the hotel and bar’s counter, and is serving from today.
