New restaurant in Bristol city centre already seeing huge queues in first week

A new restaurant near Bristol city centre is already seeing swathes of customers with queues trailing out of the door. Sichuan restaurant Guoguoyan has recently moved into a unit at the bottom of Queens Road in Clifton.

The site was once the flagship restaurant for Woky Ko, which slimmed down its operations last year, keeping the site in St Nicholas Market. Head chef and owner Lark Cen now operates Daily Noodles at Cargo 1 in Wapping Wharf specialising in bao and noodles.

Guoguoyan specialises in dishes from the Sichuan province in China known for dan dan noodles, hot and sour soup and Kung Pao chicken. The menu, which is listed in English and Chinese, offers a selection of dishes prepared on site, including wontons, soups and different spicy noodle dishes.

There is also an array of Hong Kong-inspired desserts such as Tofu pudding and an enormous speciality drinks menu. Having only opened last week, Guoguoyan has a prime spot opposite the Wills Memorial building and is already proving popular with huge queues during the lunchtime rush.

The restaurant is spread across two floors, with counter service on the ground floor and most of its seating available upstairs. It is currently open to sit-in and for takeaway, with a delivery service expected in due course.
