Marvin Bartley said the time was right to join Queen of the South.
The 36-year-old was named as the new boss on Saturday and attended Tuesday night’s SPFL Trust Trophy win over Kelty Hearts.
The former Hibs player said: “I’m the manager that hopefully wins lots of games.
“I think I’m good on the training ground, I’m an approachable person, I said that in my presentation to the boys on the first day.
“I’m transparent, I want to win so all of those things mould into one but the most important thing is winning games.”
Bartley, who gave up his job as assistant manager at Livingston to take the Palmerston post, added: “It was a whirlwind kind of thing. I spoke to the club late in the day.
“It was a case of speaking to the club on Friday and offered the job on Friday.
“I had a journey up to Ross County on the same day. It all happened so quickly it was a real fast 24 to 36 hours. Things change very quickly in life don’t they?
“I wanted to go for it. I’ve been offered other opportunities as an assistant manager and I didn’t think it was right. I wouldn’t go into something if I didn’t think I was ready for it.
“This one I felt I was ready for. I think the club’s ambitions are aligned with mine and that’s the most important thing. You can walk in to any football club and they think one thing and you think something totally different then it’s not going to work.
“I’m here and I’m extremely excited for it.”
The new manager wasted no time in bringing in his first signing to the club.
Centre back Jack Brydon, 19, has joined from Hibs on a two and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Bartley’s first game in Scottish football as a player with Hibs was against Saturday’s opponents Montrose.
He’s relishing the challenge as a manager compared to as a player.
He said: “I’ve watched an awful lot of them and I’ve been lucky to get scouting reports on them as well.
“It’s one we want to put our stamp on and show we’ve got a bounce and it starts there.”
