New PS5 models have released in Australia

Two brand-new PS5 models have launched in Australia, both of which are lighter than previous hardware iterations.

According to Press Start, this slight PS5 redesign doesn’t look any different from a glance, but the console’s heatsink has been dramatically reduced in size. As a result, the new console models aren’t nearly as heavy as prior versions.

When compared with launch models, the difference is stark. The digital PS5 (CFI-1202B) unit went from 8.6 lbs to 7.5 lbs, while the disc-based (CFI-1202A) version is down 9.9 lbs to 8.6 lbs — roughly two pounds down from before. Quite a glow-up, it would seem! However, the PS5 is still considerably larger than the Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch.

From an end-user standpoint, these revisions are not any different from older PS5 models. They all play the same PS5 games. If nothing else though, your entertainment stand won’t need quite as much support. However, there’s no official word on when the new iterations will release in North America and beyond.

Unfortunately, the PS5 recently went up in price in Canada, Europe, and several other regions. So anyone that didn’t get one in the past two years will have to shell out a bit more cash. It doesn’t look as though the price hike will be happening in the United States, thankfully.
