New Premier Inn, Aldi and Costa drive-thru to open on edge of Bristol next summer

Work on a new Premier Inn, Aldi and Costa drive-thru is due to be complete next summer, it’s been confirmed.

A new development on the vacant land behind Sainsbury’s on Fox Den Road, Stoke Gifford, was given the green light last year.

Now the developer says work will get underway “in the next three to four months” and will be complete "in summer 2023.”

Developer Baylis Estates Ltd, joint owners of The Mall, announced last year that work would start at the end of 2021, and be complete by early 2023.

They have since confirmed to BristolLive that work has been delayed.

A spokesperson said: “Our programme has been slightly delayed but we are raring to go.

“We are optimistic that work will get underway in the next few months.”

Plans for the development, put forward in 2020, include a 103-room Premier Inn and Beefeater restaurant, an Aldi supermarket, Costa drive-thru and 265 parking spaces. It also includes electric vehicle spaces, and covered and uncovered cycle parking spaces.

The development is expected to create around 170 new jobs.

The new Premier Inn will be the closest hotel to Bristol Parkway station.

The planning document reads: “The development will provide much needed employment opportunities and retail/leisure services to local businesses and the local community."

“[The scheme will] provide services to local residents/businesses that benefit the local economy, and importantly, will also provide employment opportunities with organisations that have fantastic employee training programmes.”

Vehicles will enter and leave the site via a single access point off Fox Den Road. There will also be five new pedestrian access points into the site.

Improvements will be made to the existing pedestrian crossing on Great Stoke Way, close to the Aviva roundabout, to improve accessibility.
