A recent poll conducted among 2,516 likely voters nationwide has revealed a dead heat between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, with both candidates tied at 48% of the popular vote. The survey, conducted between Oct. 20 to Oct. 23, carries a margin of error of 2.5%.
Interestingly, Harris had previously led Trump nationally by a margin of 49-46% in an earlier poll conducted in early October. However, the current results indicate a significant shift in voter sentiment.
One of the key findings of the poll is that only 28% of respondents believe that the country is heading in the right direction under the leadership of President Biden and Vice President Harris. In contrast, a majority of 61% feel that the nation is moving in the wrong direction.
When asked about their top priorities in deciding their vote for the upcoming election, 27% of voters cited the economy, including jobs and the stock market, as their primary concern. This was followed by issues such as abortion and immigration, each at 15%.
Notably, voters expressed a preference for Trump over Harris by a 6% margin when it comes to handling the economy. However, this represents a decrease from the 13-point advantage Trump previously held over Harris in this area.
The poll also highlighted that Harris maintains a 16% lead over Trump in terms of protecting abortion access, while Trump holds an 11% advantage on the topic of immigration.
Regarding President Biden, only 40% of respondents indicated their approval of the job he is doing in the Oval Office as his administration nears its conclusion. Concerns about Biden's age, at 81, were raised earlier this year, with 41% of likely voters now expressing doubts about Trump's effectiveness as a president due to his age of 78.
As the election draws closer, these poll results provide valuable insights into the shifting dynamics of voter preferences and priorities.
