New facilities for children in one area of Wishaw has been confirmed.
A new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) is being installed next to St Aidan’s Primary School in Coltness.
Once the MUGA is installed at the old red blaes pitch site next to the school, there will be free community access to the MUGA after school hours.
The area will be fenced off with a lockable access gate which will be locked during the day to ensure the school has safe use of the facility. The gate will be opened after school for local children and local sports groups to use freely.
The MUGA will include a court for multiple sports like basketball, football and tennis, there will be a 100M running track surrounding the court and a grass five-aside pitch including goals will also be available.
Independent Murdostoun councillor Cammie McManus confirmed the plans on social media.
He added: “It’s always good to be able to provide facilities like this for young people. This will be a welcome addition to Coltness.”
Fellow Murdostoun councillor Louise Roarty added: “It is very welcome news for our young people. It was a nice surprise to have this news confirmed this week.”
The site mobilisation and groundworks are due to start next week, with the aim for the project to be completed by the end of the summer in time for the new academic year in August.
The contractor will have all their welfare etc for the build on the pitch itself, however access, deliveries and parking will be via Denholm Drive.
