New plan for Ayrshire 'ghost' indoor market 12 years after closure

A former indoor market which has lain empty in Irvine town centre for almost 12 years could reopen as a storage facility.

The Bank Street market hall, a mecca for local traders for three decades before closing in 2011, is the subject of a new planning application to North Ayrshire Council.

Businesses Kurunveer Sangha, of Evergreen Storage Solutions, is seeking approval for a change of use to 'self-storage facilities.'

Documents lodged with the local authority show a floor plan for the building, which can be accessed from both Bank Street and East Road.

No other information is available at this stage. Planners will rule on the matter in due course.
