A new pilot program is aimed at helping the ever-increasing number of Kentuckians who want to teach children at home. The Kentucky Educational Development Corporation’s “New Horizons Academy” began in September. Stephanie Wilson was a public and home-school teacher before she went to work for the K-E-D-C.
“We have a curriculum that is aligned to Kentucky state standards. And we have a Kentucky certified teacher that helps and tutors when necessary.”
Wilson said New Horizons Academy supports 37 high school students from six school districts and their goal is to build a bridge to success for home-schooled kids.
“We want to make sure it's equitable for all we want to make sure all students have access to that high quality education.”
The Washington Post reports the number of students home-schooled in Kentucky has risen 56 percent since the 2017-2018 school year.
