A new pub serving "a pie and a pint" is set to open in Mumbles. The Taproom will fill an empty unit on Newton Road which previously housed Cakes & Ale and is set to open with a 'soft launch' with drinks and merchandise on sale this Friday, April 7 before a more official launch after the Easter break.
Announcing the new venue, a joint venture between Gower Brewery and Pieminister, director of Gower Brewery Chris Mabbett said: "We are so excited about this new venture! Pieminister offers the perfect pairing with our outstanding ales. This is a fantastic opportunity for people to sample our full range of beers and really get a flavour for what we brew here on the Peninsula. Also, who doesn't love a pie and a pint?"
Once fully open The Taproom will serve the full range of Gower Brewery beers including Gower Gold, Gower Power and Lighthouse Lager as well as newer additions including Langland Lager, Oxwich IPA and Gower Zero, the brand's 0.5% low alcohol IPA. It will also serve a range of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and a selection of pies and snacks, and customers will also be able to browse and purchase from a collection of limited edition Gower Brewery merchandise. On the food menu at The Taproom you'll find delicious pies from Pieminister. As well as classic meat pies, The Taproom will also serve vegan and gluten-free options as well as a selection of small plates and Pieminister's popular 'Mothership' sharing pie as well as their 'Sunday Best' pie topped with a Yorkshire pudding.
Gower Brewery was founded in Gower in 2011 and is based at Crofty Industrial Estate in Penclawdd, North Gower. Its beers are renowned locally and outside the region for being full of flavour, especially their flagship ale 'Gower Gold'. Members of the public can book a tour of the brewery or pop by to visit its shop and bar. The brewery also offers a home delivery service and supplies to a number of pubs across the country, and also operates the Malthouse, café, bar and restaurant in Swansea Grand Theatre.
Pieminister first launched in Bristol in 2003 and soon added a stall at London's Borough Market to its repertoire before having a popular pitch at Glastonbury Festival. The company now has more than 20 pie restaurants across England and also operates a handful of 'pubs with pies,' like its collaboration with Gower Brewery for The Taproom.
