New partnership aims to help children access therapy in Lanarkshire and beyond

An East Kilbride charity which supports some of the most vulnerable has teamed-up with a group of counsellors to help tackle waiting times for children's mental health services.

Share Alike will work with and can refer those needing help to new social enterprise, Victorious People Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

The counsellors at Victorious People offer a range of therapies for adults and children and families and have pledged that for every three paying adults the monies will help to fund a full child’s place for those less able to pay for private mental health care.

Figures recently published by Public Health Scotland revealed the percentage of children who saw a mental health specialist within the Scottish government’s target waiting time is at its lowest in over a year.

Victorious People work on a sliding scale of affordability to enable private mental health care is accessible to all and assess everyone on an individual basis.

Lead cognitive behavioural therapist at Victorious People, Nicole Ross, told Lanarkshire Live: "It was our passion to launch this enterprise to support those struggling with their mental health in the local area and beyond.

"We recognised a real need for more services in our area for children and young people in particular and we wanted to contribute to the wellbeing of our young people especially following the impacts of the Covid 19 pandemic.

"We work with all ages from all walks of life but our social aim is to be able to offer counselling to all with no financial barriers."

Evelyn Gale, chairperson at Share Alike, said partnerships like this are "invaluable" to their work in the community.

"We meet so many children and young people daily who need that extra bit of support especially after the last couple of years," she added.

"Knowing we now have a safe reliable service to send them to is absolutely fantastic we truly can't thank Victorious People enough for this opportunity to ensure the correct support is given in a timely manner."

All paying adults are being offered a five per cent discount on all sessions if they contact Victorious People and quote mental health week.
