Wirral Council have introduced a new experimental parking order to deal with obstructions caused by overnight parkers at a local beauty spot.
An experimental traffic regulation order (ETRO) has been put in place on a stretch of New Brighton's Coastal Drive, adjacent to the New Brighton Dips, a popular coastal beauty spot. The new charges will come into force on Friday, July 8.
To park overnight, from 10pm to 8am, will cost £20 however at all other times parking will still be free. The order will also extend the area that prohibits motor caravans, motorhomes and campervans from parking in the area, called the Dips, meaning that such touring vehicles will only be able to set up camp on the promenade overnight if they pay the £20 charge and park in a designated area.

The ECHO understands that the intention of the new charges is to better control where these larger vehicles and motorhomes can park in order to remove obstruction on the public road, which is a statutory duty for local authorities. It is also understood that the new ETRO is expected to improve waste management in the area and help the authorities enforce the public space protection order in place at the New Brighton Dips.
The new charges will be in place for 18 months initially. It will be kept under review to determine its effectiveness at delivering its intended changes.
Wirral Council said they are continuing to "investigate the viability of providing a dedicated, serviced site in the area for touring vehicles" as a longer-term solution to the issue.
