New Paolo Nutini album hits number one ahead of TRNSMT debut to dethrone Harry Styles

Paolo Nutini has delighted fans making a triumphant return to the stage at Glasgow Green, as his new album reached number one.

The Paisley-born singer made his much anticipated return to the stage in front of a packed crowd in front of the main stage at TRNSMT. The Scottish singer-songwriter has scored his third number one album, titled Last Night In The Bittersweet, which shot to number one as he took to the main stage of the Glasgow festival.

This was the 35-year-old's first new album in eight years as he previously topped the charts with 2009's Sunny Side Up and once again with Caustic Love in 2014, while his debut album These Streets peaked at number three in 2006. Taking to the stage at TRNSMT, the Scots star beamed as he looked out to the thousands of cheering fans.

With a cheeky smile the singer kicked things off with one of his latest hit releases Afterneath before another from his Last Night in the Bittersweet album Lose It. He then delighted fans with a classic from his Caustic Love album 'Scream' as the raucous crowd sang along with their hands in the air.

After performing three songs, Paolo told the crowd: "Hello Glasgow, you are looking good... you are looking very good." He then beamed: "This one is from the new album, thanks for all the support you are giving it. It means a hell of a lot."

Last Night In The Bittersweet was met with delight from fans, who hailed the album a 'masterpiece' as soon as it was released. It reached further success on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart after being the most-purchased physical LP of the week.

His achievement also knocks Harry Styles' hit third album off the top spot to number two and Ed Sheeran's Equals continues its chart success by holding third place. The star is set for a big night of partying after reportedly ordering an entire taxi full of booze to TRNSMT.

A source at the festival told The Sun they saw the taxi pull up backstage and expected passengers to get out. The insider revealed: "I was waiting for someone to come out the back but the driver pulled open the door and there was a whole load of booze inside.

"They must have called a shop and got the taxi to go and collect the booze for them. It looks like he's planning on having a good night anyway."
