The Green Bay Packers’ highest draft pick at wide receiver in 20 years will get a new number with his new green-and-gold team.
Christian Watson, the Packers’ second-round pick, will wear No. 82.
David Moore wore No. 82 for one game in Green Bay last season. The last Packers draft pick to wear No. 82 was J’Mon Moore, a fourth-round pick in 2018. Darrius Shepherd, another receiver from North Dakota State, wore No. 82 in 2020.
Watson wore No. 1 for all five of his seasons at North Dakota State. That number is unofficially retired in Green Bay for Curly Lambeau. Watson wore No. 5 in high school. That number is unofficially retired in Green Bay for Paul Hornung.
The Packers traded up in the second round to get Watson, an elite athlete with a unique skillset that could be perfect for Matt LaFleur’s offense. He may also get a chance to return kicks as a rookie.
Watson is the third rookie to get his new number. Quay Walker will wear No. 7. Devonte Wyatt will wear No. 95.
