New owner Todd Boehly hints at Chelsea plans with ‘destiny’ talk

New owner Todd Boehly has hinted at his plans for Chelsea as the club looks to "optimise" their "destiny."

The American businessman officially completed his takeover of the Blues late last month in a deal worth £4.25 billion, of which £2.5b was spent to purchase the club and a further £1.75b commitment to future investment, including in the stadium.

Boehly feels the Premier League remains undervalued despite its status as the richest league in the world, and has plans afoot for Chelsea to get the best out of their status.

"They don't realise how big their opportunity is," Todd Boehly told the SuperReturn International private equity conference in Berlin on Wednesday.

"Let’s get a hold of our destiny and think about how to optimise this."

He added: "The asset class is getting institutionalised. Now, we are starting to realise the power of these platforms."

Boehly has predicted Newcastle to gatecrash the traditional 'Big Six', adding that many clubs have the opportunity to win the title in the years ahead.

"The big six will become the big seven with the Saudi deal for Newcastle," he added. "There is going to be opportunity for everyone to win."
