A HISTORIC hotel reportedly visited by the King of Spain in a popular Scottish town has been sold.
The new owner has said they will “breathe new life” into the B-listed Birnam Hotel in Birnam, Dunkeld.
The building was rebuilt after a fire at the turn of the nineteenth century and is expected to reopen in 2026 after a refurbishment.
It was acquired by the owner of The Taybank in the Perthshire town.
The Dunkeld and Birnam Tourist Association said the hotel was visited by the King of Spain and by the French Empress, “though at different times”.
Graeme Smith, of Smith and Clough Business Associates who handled the sale, said: “We are delighted to announce that we have successfully acquired the historic Birnam Hotel for our client, Fraser Potter, owner of The Taybank in Dunkeld.
“Fraser and his team aim to breathe new life into this storied establishment, offering a new interpretation of the classic Scottish country hotel experience.”
The value of the acquisition has not been disclosed.
