The brother of the suspected terrorist accused of ramming a truck through crowded Bourbon Street in New Orleans recently shed light on his brother's religious background. Abdur Jabbar, 24, revealed in an interview that he and his brother, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, were raised Christian in Beaumont, Texas, but Shamsud-Din had converted to Islam.
Abdur Jabbar stated, 'As far as I know, he was a Muslim for most of his life.' He emphasized that the actions of his brother did not align with the principles of Islam, attributing the attack to 'radicalization' rather than religion.
The FBI reported that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen and former U.S. Army veteran, drove a rented truck adorned with an ISIS flag and carrying weapons and a potential improvised explosive device (IED) into a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street. The attack resulted in at least 15 fatalities and over 30 injuries, with additional IEDs discovered in the French Quarter.
Law enforcement engaged with Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who opened fire on officers before being fatally shot at the scene. Despite his military background and previous high-paying job, his actions on that fateful night have left a community in shock and mourning.
