New Orleans shooting: Two fighting for life after 11 people shot in French Quarter

Two people are fighting for life in hospital after a shooting in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Eleven people were shot in the attack on Sunday and two are in critical condition, police said.

Superintendent Shaun Ferguson told local media that a person of interest has been detained.

He added that the 10 victims have been taken to two different hospitals, and one more person had walked in for treatment.

Further details about their conditions have yet to be released.

The shooting took place on a busy commercial block of Canal Street that has streetcar tracks and is near many hotels.

Superintendent Ferguson says police quickly responded to the scene.

He said patrols were heightened for this weekend's Bayou Classic, the annual Thanksgiving weekend rivalry football game between Grambling State and Southern University that's played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
