A New Orleans couple got married in a heart-shaped sinkhole as a playful message to call attention to the city's crumbling streets.
Kevin Nguyen and Monica Resh entered a contest held by the popular Instagram page "Look at This F***in Street." The contest included free photography and officiant services as well as a wedding cake, so long as the contest winners agreed to hold their wedding on top of a city pothole.
"I've never been known to turn down a crazy idea," Resh told WWL-TV. "We won the lottery of weddings, not the scratch-off of weddings."
The couple said their vows on top of a heart-shaped pothole that had been causing problems in the city for more than a decade, with Resh noting that she had tripped on it herself.
In addition to family and friends, fans of the Instagram page also showed up for the wedding, with many wearing traffic cone and construction-themed outfits and accessories. Even the bride featured caution tape on her flower bouquet.
"Different for sure. But we're New Orleans, we specialize in different here," Maddlyn Guilbeau, a bridal stylist at the nearby bridal store, Unbridaled, told FOX 8.
More than 500 couples submitted applications for the contest. As the heart-shaped pothole sits outside Felicity Church, the church's owner Chris Jones told NOLA.com that he hopes "one day, maybe, it gets fixed."
