New Nottingham YUM Burger restaurant forced to close on opening weekend due to power outage

Customers were left disappointed after a new burger restaurant was forced to shut its doors on opening day. The busy launch was brought to an abrupt halt when YUM Burger suffered a power outage.

Hundreds of hungry diners queued during the day to take advantage of the offer of 50 percent off all burgers for the opening weekend at the company's flagship restaurant in Sneinton. Despite the glitch the owners of the family-run business in Sneinton Dale vowed to be back and have promised to honour the half-price offer that was cut short.

The restaurant opened at noon on Saturday, June 18, with the power for the heavy duty cooking equipment going off about 10pm. Although the earlier queues snaking around the building had calmed down there were still people waiting to order.

It has been closed since then. Investigations are being carried out by the energy company Western Power to isolate the problem. Owner Aqil Yasin said: “Of course we were hoping to mark the first opening with a bang.

"But not quite as literally as this. We were overwhelmed by the number of people who paid us a visit and are gutted that an electrical issue has made us go offline at such short notice. It was out of our control and nothing could be done. We are awaiting some parts to arrive from America but we have been told it should be by close of play today. They're in transit. We hope to be reopen very soon."

The date for reopening and the 50 percent burger deal has yet to be announced. There had been much excitement surrounding the opening of new restaurant, in the former Dale Hotel pub, which has motorcycle seats and a bold yellow and black colour scheme.

It's the third site for YUM, which also has restaurants in Derby and Walsall. The company prides itself on having something for all pockets and tastes. The affordable prices starting at just £1.50 for the All Day Erry Day Burger up to £7 for the mega-sized Yumbo Jumbo with a 180g beef patty with fried egg, bacon, onion, lettuce, tomatoes, gherkins and the special YUM sauce.
