New North Lanarkshire Council leader visits site of Newmains & St Brigid's Community Hub

The newly appointed leader of North Lanarkshire Council visited the construction site of the Newmains and St Brigid’s Community hub.

Councillor Jordan Linden met staff and got to see first-hand how work was progressing at the £20m new hub, which will soon become home to hundreds of children in the area.

The facility will include two primary schools, a family learning centre and community facilities.

The building work should be completed the end of the year and pupils and staff are expected to move in early in the New Year.

Councillor Linden said: “It was a real pleasure to make my first visit as Leader to the site of new Newmains and St Brigid’s Community Hub.

“I’m very much look forward to seeing it being completed and for pupils, staff and the community moving in and enjoying all it has to offer in the New Year.”

Children and young people, staff, parents and the local community are playing a significant role in developing the design for the campus.

They have been working with the design team and senior council officers to ensure the design of the campus reflects the educational aspirations of the council, taking into account the requirements of the local community and the natural heritage and architecture of the area.

The amenities will extend to high quality outdoor and indoor sports facilities, extensive landscaped shared playground for both schools and dedicated outside play space for the Family Learning Centre, enthusing the youngest of learners.

The shared campus building will provide naturally lit flexible learning spaces and will be agile enough to accommodate a wide range of learning requirements.

A turf cutting ceremony took place in July 2021, presented by the then convener of education and families, Frank McNally.

Elected members of the ward and children from Newmains Family Learning Centre attended.
