New NHS quiz tells you exactly how unhealthy you are on a scale of one to 10

A new quiz has been designed by the NHS to help people assess how healthy their lifestyle is, and identify any changes that they may need to make.

The start of a new year is a good time to pick up some healthy new habits, but for a lot of people, it can cause bad habits like smoking and drinking too much to resurface.

The brand new 'How Are You?' Health Quiz aims to help people pick up on the things that could be damaging their wellbeing, as well as suggesting ways in which it can be improved.

The Mirror reports that the quiz is part of the Better Health programme, which aims to provide people with all the information they need to start making changes in a "healthy and achievable way".

It only takes 10 minutes to carry out and it'll give you a free personalised score out of 10 based on your current lifestyle choices.

Available on the NHS website, the quiz starts off by asking you some basic information such as your age, name and gender.

Then you'll be asked how you feel, choosing from six sliding scales with options such as 'Not my best' and 'Fitter than ever' that you can change depending on your current situation.

After this, you'll be questioned on the factors that may be stopping you from feeling your best, such as being unwell or not knowing what to do. You will also be asked if anyone depends on you being healthy, like a partner or children.

The next question asks what your top three health priorities are, which can include answers such as feeling young, fitting into my jeans, and having more energy.

After this, you'll be given some advice about your well-being that will be different depending on your answers, before the quiz moves on to asking you more specific questions about your lifestyle — including the choices you would usually make when it comes to food and drink.

You're asked to choose from a couple of options, including what type of drink, breakfast, cheese, meat, potatoes and snacks you'd normally choose.

This section also includes a question about how often you eat fruits and vegetables throughout the day. You'll then be given more advice based on the answers you've given.

The following part focuses on the "stronger stuff" such as alcohol intake, where you'll be advised on whether or not you need to be making any changes.

Part four asks you about how much exercise you do every week, where you can choose between 0 and 150 minutes for each day on a sliding scale.

You're also asked the same question about strengthening exercise, which can include activities such as "weights, sit-ups, yoga, carrying heavy shopping bags, digging the garden".

Finally, you're asked about your smoking habits.

On completing the quiz you'll be given a score out of 10 and see if you're in the red, amber or green sections for categories like eating, drinking and exercise.

You'll also be given some further advice about what you can do to improve and tips to help make your lifestyle healthier, such as trying to have alcohol-free days, doing more exercise, or eating healthier food.
