New Netflix reality show challenges contestants to survive 'real' zombie apocalypse

Fans of zombie films and TV shows are about to be given an Netflix offering to get their teeth into, with the streaming giant releasing more information about the upcoming Zombieverse reality series. Describing the show, Netflix says: "In Seoul, where a zombie virus outbreak has run amok, who will outwit the undead in the face of challenging quests and come out alive?"

The series takes place in South Korea's capital and will follow a group of 'survivors' who have to band together to find food, water and shelter - all while dodging the undead. Contestants will be given daily tasks, but if one of them is 'bitten' by a zombie, they will have to exit the game.

Speaking about the project, Zombieverse co-creator Park Jin-kyung said: "There will be new zombies, survivors and unique scenes, which have not been seen in the existing zombie-themed projects. The likes of bumper car-steering or swing boat-riding zombies will entertain the viewers to their fullest."

The reality show will feature celebrity contestants, such as singer Tsuki, Sweet Home actress Lee Si-young, TV personality Noh Hong-chul, comedian Park Na-rae and rapper DinDin. In reaction to the show's teaser trailer being tweeted out by Netflix, fans had plenty to say.

ItmeLegend tweeted: "Nah being kicked in the chest hard af while roleplaying as a zombie for a living wage would have me livid." Kendallhosseini added: "Those zombie actors better get hazard pay because i would be biting back if anyone touched me."

Queendelastudio put: "They are literally teaching ppl how to survive now...it's one coming...the next outbreak is going to be something."

Kallesarraj, claimed they were up to the task, writing: "Challenge accepted! As an avid fan of zombie and survival tactics, I'm ready to put my skills to the test. I've got my survival kit ready, a solid plan, and a never-give-up attitude. Bring on the undead, Netflix! #Zombieverse"

Zombieverse is due to premiere on August 8. Though, Netflix is yet to announce how many episodes there will be in the first series.

The production continues the streaming platform's relationship South Korea's Kakao Entertainment, which announced the two would be making 30 movies and TV series together this year.
