New Naby Keita Liverpool 'swap deal' emerges as Joe Gomez 'interest' intensifies

Liverpool return for pre-season training on Monday and the Reds are well prepared following their business in the transfer market.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already signed Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay in order to bolster their ranks ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. Newly-appointed Sporting Director Julian Ward has received plaudits for his work in his first transfer window in the role.

While the understanding is there will be no more incomings, the Reds continue to be linked with players across the continent and beyond. With that in mind, we have rounded up the latest transfer gossip surrounding Liverpool.

Liverpool have been linked with an extravagant swap deal with Juventus that involves Adrien Rabiot and Naby Keita, according to reports.

French international Rabiot, who has won 29 caps for his country, is keen on a move to the Premier League, as revealed in The Telegraph last week. Having come through the youth academy at Paris Saint-Germain, the midfielder made 227 appearances for the Parisians before moving to Juventus in 2019. He has played 129 times for The Old Lady but is said to be keen on an exit.

Juventus, who finished fourth in Serie A last season, are reportedly eager to use Rabiot as makeweight in an exchange deal to sign Reds midfielder Keita. Liverpool are trying to extend the Guinea international’s stay at Anfield but according to Libero, Keita does not want to sign a new contract. This has paved the way for a potential move to Italy in a trade with Rabiot, who is two months younger than the Reds star.

What?

Aston Villa are ‘preparing’ to make a £30m offer for Joe Gomez, according to the Daily Star.

Having struggled with injuries over recent years, Gomez made just eight Premier League appearances and only four starts last season. This was despite being fit for the majority of the campaign. The ECHO understands that Liverpool are keen to extend his deal, which expires in the summer of 2024 but are aware that Gomez would like more first-team action.

Having signed from Charlton in 2015, the defender has made 142 appearances for the Reds. And Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is aiming to prize Gomez away from Anfield as he looks to bolster his options in defence ahead of the new season.

The lure of first-team football will be of interest to Gomez, who is keen to add to his 11 England caps, the last of which came in October 2020.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly keen to make a move for Liverpool right-back Neco Williams as they continue to plan for their return to the Premier League after a 23-year exile.

The Reds are expected to allow Williams to depart this summer, after impressing on loan at Fulham during the second half of the season. He scored twice in 15 games as he helped the Cottagers to promotion from The Championship.

There is an acceptance that Williams, who joined Liverpool’s academy aged six and has made 33 appearances in total, is in search of regular first team football ahead of representing Wales at the Qatar World Cup.
