Glasgow's Clutha bar owner reveals multi-million-pound development plans

THE owner of the Clutha bar in Glasgow has revealed plans to re-develop the historic pub and build a multi-million pound arts complex.

Alan Crossan, 70, discussed the revamp ahead of the 10-year anniversary of the disaster which resulted in the death of 10 people after a helicopter crashed into the building on November 29 2013.

The pub landlord has revealed he is now seeking investors to create a new multi-million pound pub, theatre, arts venue, serviced apartments and memorial to those that died in the disaster on the site.

He plans to keep the name of the Clutha and incorporate elements of the existing property into the new development.

Speaking to STV, he explained: “I want to make sure there is always a Clutha here and this is the only way I can do that. It’s the people that make the Clutha, it doesn’t matter about the bricks and mortar, it’s the people.

“It’s one of the prime sites in Glasgow and one of the most important according to the council. It’s known worldwide.

“What we are trying to create is a music, arts and drama hub. There will be a prominent memorial for those who died.”
