Vox Lux

A terrifying school shooting leads one survive named Celeste (Raffey Cassidy) to rise from the ashes and become an international pop star (Natalie Portman). But time isn't kind to Celeste and violence seems to follow her wherever she goes. Portman is a fiery and melodramatic songstress, while Jude Law stars as her beleaguered manager. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile

Zac Efron sheds his Disney pin-up image to portray one of the most infamous of US serial killers: Ted Bundy. In a film told from the point of view of Bundy's girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins), who had no idea what kind of monster Bundy was, we see how Bundy's charisma weaponise a legion of female followers and completely fooled an innocent young woman. He created arguably the greatest fantasy world of all time with Middle-Earth, but who was the man behind Lord of the Rings? This biopic goes deep into the personal life of author J.R.R. Tolkien and his experiences in the First World War alongside his greatest friends. Tolkien stars Nicholas Hoult as the author, Lily Collins as soulmate Edith Bratt and the likes of Pam Ferris, Craig Roberts, and Derek Jacobi.

Hotel Mumbai
This biographical thriller focuses on the Mumbai attacks in 2008 at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in India. High Life

In this cerebral sci-fi from Claire Denis, Robert Pattinson stars as Monte, the last survivor of a dangerous mission to the outer reaches of space, who must rely on his child to survive as they hurtle towards a black hole. The film has already gained attention for its much-discussed handling of John's sexuality, including his relationship with John Reid (played by Richard Madden).
